Getting Back on Track

Have you every tried something for the first time and wondered where it’s been your entire life? That’s exactly how I feel about yoga. I absolutely love it! Even though I have only been to two yoga classes, I still give myself a hard time for not trying it sooner in life. I can’t get enough of it.

I’m the type of person that worries about mastering new skills that I have learned. I always want to be good at it after the first couple of times I have tried it and often become frustrated when I can’t master it. Yoga is different. Even during the first class, I was never worried about perfecting the moves. I wasn’t even the slightest bit worried about performing as good as the other yoga class attendees. Nothing runs through my head and it is like my mind clears as soon as the class starts. It’s such an amazing feeling because I don’t worry about anything and everything is so simple.

Unlike last week, there was quite a few people at yoga class this week. Most of them were older women from my community and I knew most of them because I live in a pretty small town! I’ve always been uncomfortable working out in front of people and have always had trouble attending fitness classes like these. But again, yoga is different and I feel at ease when I am there.

The next part of my ILP is making healthy eating choices. This week I have tried really hard to cut out carbs, sugar, and dairy. I have been eating more fruits and vegetables and smaller portions. I find it extremely hard to completely cut something out of my diet so I am slowly trying it one step at a time. I went gluten free and dairy free for a month this past winter and I can’t believe how different and amazing I felt while not eating those foods. I have some what of a dairy and gluten intolerance anyway but nothing serious enough where I can’t eat it. I just don’t feel the greatest after I eat but I still eat it anyway. Smart, I know. I lost ten pounds in one month just by cutting out gluten and dairy and my goal is get back to that type of eating. One downfall that comes with it is that it is so expensive! I’m a poor college student that can barely afford my rent let alone fresh fruits, veggies, and gluten and dairy free foods.

After slowly adjusting myself to yoga and getting back on track to eating healthy, I am excited to see what this upcoming week has in store for me and I can’t wait to share it with all of you!

  1. That is awesome about the yoga. I don’t ever think I could totally clear my mind, I lay in bed at night wanting to sleep but instead I am running through a list of randomness that no one (not even me) cares about. My mind is like the song that doesn’t end by lambchop (if you have never heard this song don’t look it up just trust me it is annoying.) Maybe if I tried yoga it would help me learn to turn my brain off? Who knows? Anyways I am happy for you that you have found your nitch! great post.

  2. I am enjoying following your blog updates each week. I have always wanted to try yoga. Sadly, we do not have it offered in our little town. Have you used any videos or youtube sites when you cannot attend class? Your blog has me inspired to attempt yoga. Any suggestions?

    1. Thank you Charity! This week I tried the videos “Yoga with Adriene” on YouTube and absolutely loved it! I tried the anxiety and stress video but she has various types of yoga and they all vary in length, which is nice. She also has a website that I linked to my blog for this week. I really encourage you to try yoga! If you try a video, let me know what you think of it!
