The illustrations were very colorful and vivid in this book which I really enjoyed. This book would be great for a child who is just learning to read because it is a simple script and an easy read. I loved the story line because I am a sucker for any animal rescue story!
I liked this book more than I thought I would. I really loved the illustrations that went a long and it was fun to look at them while reading. I was surprised with the ending because I hadn’t expected it to end like that, the carrots just wanted to be left alone!
I loved this book! I loved the illustrations and the story it told even though there were no words to follow along with. I think this book would be an easier read for older children rather than younger children because I don’t think younger children would understand as easily because there are no words. It’s a very cute book!
I didn’t enjoy the storyline of this book but I loved the pictures and illustrations! It was very nicely done and kept me drawn in and every time I turned the page.
I enjoyed this book because it wasn’t your average children’s book. It was sort of dark in a way and wasn’t happy and colorful like any other children’s book. I liked the end because the child was reunited with his cat and it made him happy during a bad time that had just happened.
My favorite part of this book is the illustrations. I really enjoyed the author’s artwork and the way he told the story through pictures. I also liked how the author included a moral to the story: if you steal something it usually doesn’t end well!
I usually don’t like books that don’t have words but I enjoyed this one. My favorite was the ending of this book when the mouse freed the lion but it wasn’t just to free the lion, it was to bring something back to her children at the end of the day.
I have always loved this story and even though this book was a little different from the original, it was still good. I loved following along with the illustrations and the different characters that joined the story throughout the book.
At first, I didn’t like this book but once it told what the hello, goodbye window was for, I began to understand and enjoy it more. One of my favorite lines is, “ You can be happy and said at the same time, you know. It just happens that way sometimes.” I love it because it is so true! I love the meaning of the hello, goodbye window because it’s something the kids will always remember from their grandparent’s house and everyone needs those kind of memories!
I really loved this book! I loved how even at the end with Amos McGee couldn’t get out of the bed, his animals friends still came to see him. The author did a great job with the illustrations and I loved the way he gave each animal a personality and made themselves into their own character!

I agree with you about the Flora and the Flamingo book with older children will understand it better. I think I would still read this to a younger class because it will allow the children to use their minds and be creative in their imaginations. After I read it to them I would do an activity off it and have them tell their side of the story and what they think happened.

Molly Idle has a new Flora book coming out at the end of September, Flora and the Penguin. I happen to love wordless picture books because I think they promote all kinds of great thinking and inference skills. Have you looked at any of David Wiesner’s books yet? Mr Wuffles and Flotsam are two of my favorites of his. They’re mostly wordless! Peter Brown has many great picture books and in quite different visual styles. My favorite is probably The Curious Garden, but I also really enjoyed his newest book, My Teacher Is a Monster–would make a terrific beginning-of-school-year read-aloud. I’m a sucker for animal rescue stories too! See if you can find Kirby Larson’s Two Bobbies and also William Munoz’s Saving Audie.

I to have read The Stray dog and find it to be very entertaining and the illustrations are a great addition to the book. I noticed you pay attention to the illustrations of a book and I do the same thing. I feel that reading is more enjoyable in children’s books when you can visually see the words being read. When were older its easy to picture a chapter book, but as younger children just learning to read or in the early stages of reading it is more difficult to picture the words being said. If you had to choose a favorite book of all of these which book would that be?

I completely agree with you! Even though I didn’t like it at first, my favorite book thus far was the Hello, Goodbye Window. I loved the storyline and how the child had something about his grandparent’s house. I could relate to it because I too always remember something specific from my grandparent’s house and hold it close to my heart!

Although I did not include The Three Pigs on my list, I read it last week and did enjoy it. I thought it was a cute twist on the story and liked how this story brought in other children’s tales as well. The pictures and the way the characters moved through the story was so creative. I agree with you The House in the Night. It was not my favorite story, but the pictures are well done.

I chose a couple of the same books as you as well: Creepy Carrots and A Sick Day for Amos McGee. I felt the exact same way about Creepy Carrots as you did, I thought I wouldn’t like it at first, and then I truly enjoyed it. I loved the story line, and how the carrots just wanted to be left alone, and were make Jasper feel a little bit crazy! So cute. And Amos McGee stole my heart, such a warm feeling book. Anything that involves animals of that such wins me over so easily. I am going to have to check for some of your other books, especially Flora because I wanted that one and my small library didn’t have it! I love wordless picture books, leaves so much to the imagination!

We read just about the same books! My favorite by far was This Is Not My Hat. I thought it was a funny little story. I also really enjoyed A Sick Day for Amos McGee. I would have liked I if you would have explained the books a little more, but good job!
